Do you need to see a specialist in prosthodontics? First, what is a specialist?
A specialist is a person who concentrates primarily on a particular subject or activity, a person highly skilled in a specific and restricted field. If you have a heart condition, you would immediately see a cardiologist, rather than your general doctor. A prosthodontist is a general dentist with advanced education in prosthodontics. They specialize in tooth replacement, the restoration of teeth, full-mouth rehabilitation and reconstruction, cosmetic crowns and bridges, and dentures. Some prosthodontists specialize even more, by placing dental implants to replace missing teeth.
